The Great March of Return

Sumud - Steadfastness (1948 onwards)

Design: Ibrahim Al Muhtadi [Al Quds], Gaza
Embroidery: Karema Nassar [Barbara], Gaza

The Great March of Return, a series of protests at points near the fence between Gaza and Israel, began on 30 March 2018. The protests were initiated by Palestinian activists independently from Palestinian political factions. They demanded that Palestinian refugees and their descendants be allowed to return to the land from which they were displaced in 1948.

These non-violent protesters, including children, medics and journalists, were killed and maimed by Israeli snipers with live ammunition, creating life-long disabilities.
