The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) was established in 1949.  The following year, it began providing nutritional, health, and educational services to about 750,000 Palestine refugees displaced as a result of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Today, UNRWA provides services to over 5 million Palestinian refugees.
