At a PHT Project meeting in January 2017 a discussion was held by the Committee Members regarding the on going selection of images for stitch. The general agreement was that in order to respond in full to a project objective….“To ensure that Palestinians manage the work,”…. a sub-committee of Palestinian membership should be set up with responsibility for the continuation of image for stitch selection. The Sub-Committee will be coordinated by Selma Harb and image contributions will be gathered from wherever there is inspiration
Images suggested for inclusion in the Tapestry will be selected by Palestinians and agreed for stitch by the Sub-Committee.
The following questions are guidelines for image selection
Is the suggested image about:
- Palestine?
- Palestinians?
- Palestinian history?
- Palestinian heritage?
If the answer is yes to at least one of these questions, proceed to:
Is the image suggested:
- A suitable contribution to the Tapestry?
- Too large or complicated for a panel?
- Able to be transferred easily onto fabric?
- Straightforward to stitch?
These questions may need to be answered by designers and embroiderers in the field.
Once images have been agreed by the Sub-Committee, those referring to history may be passed to a History Advisor for comments.
Following Sub-Committee approval, images will be allocated to a Field Coordinator for stitch.
