How to contribute a panel for the Palestinian History Tapestry

We welcome proposals for ideas about what would make interesting and important images in stitch, but contributions in sketch form or embroidery must be made by Palestinians.

As this is a voluntary exercise, we ask that if you wish to take part please would you raise your own funds to support your contribution.

Because the finished tapestry ideally will need to be uniform there are a few guidelines that should be adhered to.

Guidelines

It is important that your proposed panel design, or subject matter, is agreed between you and the pht panel organisers before the artwork begins. This will eliminate panel duplication, and help in forming a data base of stories.

The finished tapestry will be made from a series of story panels each one separated from its neighbour by a spacer. The completed tapestry length is not yet determined.

The Panels

Each completed story panel is to measure approximately 1metre wide and exactly 50cm high.  Each panel is to tell a story or scene agreed between the Palestinian stitchers and the panel organisers. The density of stitching will vary depending on the subject.

The Spacers

The spacers, which will sit between each panel, are to be exactly 30cm wide and exactly 50cm high (no deviations from this size please), and will show a small stitched cameo, representative of Palestinian life.

The panels and spacers may [it’s a choice] have a decorative embroidered border in traditional or modern design stitch or Arabic calligraphy around the story or the cameo.

If the embroiderer chooses to stitch a boarder, then 10 centimetres should be left all round the outside of the boarder.
